Resources for Referees:

Q. I am interested in becoming a referee with Hartwell.  What do I do?

For both RECREATION and TRAVEL games with Hartwell, you must be a certified referee.

Certification requirements:

  • At least 13 yeards old, AND
  • successfully complete the new referee grassroots training course, and other CSRP requirements (attending annual briefing meeting and complete on-field sessions).
  • NOTE: Certified referees must RECERTIFY every year and pay the annual fee to retain certification. If you do not recertify, you will lose your certification and cannot be assigned to any games.

Q. How do I get certified as a Soccer Referee?

The New Referee Training Process is a combination of an On-Line Training Course to be completed at your own pace and attendance of an in-person session of 3 hours.

Q. How much do I get paid to officiate a Hartwell Travel or Recreation Soccer Game?

In June 2025, the Board approved equal pay rates between Recreation and Travel games, and changed Travel YTL and U9 games to be primarily a single referee assignment, and increased the pay for that solo referee to $40/game. This would be effective starting the Fall 2025 season.

Hartwell only assigns certified referees to our soccer games.  Hartwell also administers a "Junior Referee" program for kids 13 or younger looking for a low stress introduction to officiating.  Younger level games may see a Junior Referee assigned.
